Desire in prayer!

“For this is all my salvation and all my desire; will He not make it increase?” (II Samuel 23:5)

Always be desirous of prayer. If you have to attain that desire for prayer you need to have a thirst towards God. There should be a longing for the presence of God.

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” (Psalms 42:1, 2). On which you are desirous, the eagerness to get a particular thing will come to you if you are desirous of it.

I asked a young girl about her future ambition, whether she would like to become a doctor or an engineer or an advocate. She emphatically replied “I would like to become a lady doctor. Do you know why? Only then I would be able to help the needy. I will become a missionary doctor and bring the people towards Jesus Christ.

God fulfilled her wish and she works as a doctor now. If you intend to experience the presence and company of Christ, awaken the desire within you. Stir up that desire. In addition to repeatedly saying ‘I am going to pray’, ‘I am going to pray’, break all the shackles that prevent you from praying. Create an atmosphere wherein you could pray earnestly. Resort to reading good spiritual books.

David had the habit of going to the sanctuary for praying. He said, “Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver” (I Chronicle 29:3).

Those who have the desire to pray will come forward to make any sacrifice to experience the ecstatic divine company joyously. The love of the friends may be great but those who prefer to pray to stay alone in the presence of God will detach from them saying, “This is my praying time. I would love to spend time with God personally.”

In order to be in the presence of God and pray in the early morning hours, they will sacrifice their comfort and sleep. “Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down in his shade with great delight and his fruit was sweet to my taste” (Song of Solomon 2:3).

Dear children of God, do you love God and do you yearn to be at His feet? God says, “Because he has set his love upon me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high because he has known my name” (Psalms 91:14).

To meditate: “Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? (James 4:5)
