“The spirit of harlotry has caused them to stray and they have played the harlot against their God” (Hosea 4:12)
Three spirits are combined together. They are capable of attacking and spoiling a man’s soul. The first is the spirit of lust, second is the spirit of harlotry and thirdly the spirit of adultery. God loves His children so much as a loving bridegroom but when they are found to neglect His love and worship the idols, he laments saying, “My people have transgressed against me and have committed adultery.”
Sexual immorality is a wicked and deadly sin which spoils one’s body and soul. God hates this sin very much. Has He not said “Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh” (I Corinthians 6:16)? Since a harlot has contacts with several men, she gets infected with all the diseases which those men had in them. If one among those men had AIDS in him, the harlot gets infected with this dreadful disease and through her, the disease spreads to all who have had contact with her. What all the spirits a harlot possesses, will reach the man who makes contact with her also. Then he will become a pitiable person.
The Holy Spirit is dwelling in you, the children of God. Your body is the temple of God; His dwelling place; a holy place where God dwells. So, it is your duty to abide in the Holy Spirit protecting your soul.
“Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body” (I Corinthians 6:15, 13). “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality, sins against his own body” (I Corinthians 6:18).
Samson was chosen by God and though he was vested with heavenly strength with a noble cause of delivering the Israelites from the hands of the Philistines, the spirit of harlotry entered him. Though on one side he was led by God, on the other side he was guided by the spirit of harlotry and went behind harlots. Alas! He made the calling and as well as being chosen, to be a loss because of the spirit of harlotry and as a result, the glory of God departed from him. His eyes were plucked and he came to a pathetic condition.
To meditate: “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works” (Revelation 2:5).
