“For the Lord has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes, namely, the prophets; and He has covered your heads, namely, the seers” (Isaiah 29:10).
‘Sleep’ is created by God. He wished that one should work hard for the whole day, sleep in the night and rise up in the morning refreshingly. That is why He made the sunset in the evening and brought the cool conditions for the night. He spread the stars and the moon which were the tiny lights, over the sky.
David says, “I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me” (Psalms 3:5). “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety” (Psalms 4:8).
Further, He gives the dreams and visions to the servants of God and speaks to them. “For, so He gives His beloved, sleep” (Psalms 127:2).
But what satan brings is stupor. He leads you to pleasure filled life. He sings Lullaby so that you snuggle on the mattress always for a cozy sleep. Thus he makes the people of God, lazy. Natural sleep is good but giving place to the spirit of stupor will take one towards satan.
I went to a particular city in Karnataka for preaching. Though I was filled with anointment while preaching the people there were found to be sleepy. They seemed to be infected with some sort of dizziness. The group which was singing sang the song “Let us get away from the sleep, let us be filled with enthusiasm, to the end of the world” again and again.
Though those believers were in the church, they were not in their senses. I felt that satan was preventing them from listening to the sermon by shutting down their eyes and ears. Not only that church but that entire city had been affected by the spirit of stupor.
After the meeting in the church was over, I visited a home to have my food. The family there brought a small boy to me and said, “Pray for this boy. He is always sleeping. He is not at all active.” I felt pity for that boy.
Dear children of God, protest against such spirits. When you stand against satan, he will run away from you definitely. The spirit of stupor will bring scarcity and shortages in the family. Only when one rises in the early morning and seeks God, the entire home will be filled with the presence of God and divine glory. Seek an alert life from God.
To meditate: “I sleep, but my heart is awake; it is the voice of my beloved! He knocks….” (Song of Solomon 5:2).
