“When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them” (Joshua 7:21).
The words ‘Babylonian Spirits’ render several meanings like ‘confusion’, ‘erratic’ and ‘provoking with lust.’ The word ‘Babylon’ was derived from the word ‘Babel.’ The Scripture says, “Therefore its name is called Babel because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth” (Genesis 11:9).
What was called as ‘Babel’ in olden days came to be known as ‘Babylonian’ during the time of Joshua. Nebuchadnezzar made Baghdad as his capital city and made it famous. In our days, Saddam Hussein proclaimed that he belonged to Nebuchadnezzar’s dynasty and he would reconstruct and develop Babylon. Even today, Babylon is called as Iraq and its capital city is Baghdad.
If you research the whole of the Scripture, you will find two cities being very prominent. One is Jerusalem which is located in Israel and the other city is Baghdad which is in Babylon. It means confusion and erratic.
We can see a struggle or a war going on between these two cities often. During many times, Israel won over Baghdad and in a few times it was vice versa and because of this the Israelites were kept in captivity, thus were made slaves. There is always a war between every believer, Israel and Babylon.
Satan stands beside Babylon and creates the spirit of confusion and erratic spirits amongst the people of God. But God stands by the side of Israel and brings divine peace and joy there. If you always stand with Israel that is with God, the divine peace which surpasses all understanding will prevail in your heart.
Today confusions and erratic things are there in many families. They will not keep their houses neat, tidy and beautiful. The children are also indisciplined and do not wake up early. They will not brush their teeth and behave erratically. Today the ‘Hippi’ movement is becoming popular again. They say that they will not obey the rules and regulations and live as they like. You may come unto God leaving all these spirits of Babylon. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.” (Acts 16:31)
To meditate: “Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells in Mount Zion” (Isaiah 8:18).
