“So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?” (Genesis 4:6).
One of the spirits which spoils the family is the spirit of irritation. Some people will get irritated over anything and everything. Their faces will be filled with grumpiness and later the irritation will turn into anger. They will show their anger over others without any genuine reason. In some, the cause for irritation is their jealousy over others’ greatness.
Once, the elders of the church of Pastor Paul Yonggi Cho disobeyed. Since they did not act according to his guidance, he got irritated. Slowly that irritation grew in nature and within a few days he was irritated over all around – the church, the believers and ultimately with God also. “Why God, why did you give me such bad elders? Is it easy for me to manage the believers of the church who are nine lakhs in number?”
With that irritation, he returned home. His irritation grew further when he found the things at his house in total disarray. His level of irritation rose higher as he saw his wife sleeping without waiting for him. “Is she a woman? She must be a devil. She should be the ugliest of all women in the world.” He looked at his children who were sleeping and he said, “All these are the brood of vipers. Why such children are given to me?”
As Irritation increased, he sat on a chair placed near a window. At that time suddenly he began to speak mildly and softly, in tongue. As he went on speaking in tongue, the irritation began to decrease and divine love over God came in him. He began to worship God with a smiling face. After praying for one hour, the divine glory descended on him.
Now, when he saw his wife, he joyfully said that she looked very beautiful like an angel. Looking at his children he told that God had given him the best children in the world. He told that there was none to match his children in wisdom and knowledge. When he was saying so, the spirit of irritation which looked like a black image, flew out of the window.
Some people, without knowing that this was a deed of a wicked spirit, many people will be returning home with a frowning face, will get annoyed even at tiny things and will go out of home again. When a spirit of irritation came upon Saul eyed David and tried to kill him.
Dear children of God, stand resisting the spirit of irritation. Never allow it to enter your homes. Be filled with divine love. May the Holy Spirit guide you!
To meditate: “But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel” (Exodus 1:12).
