“Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham” (Genesis 26:3).
The excellent promise you read above is the one which God gave to Isaac son of Abraham who is the father of faith. God who stayed with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has a will to bless you also today.
God promised Isaac His presence and said: “I will be with you.” Then He said “I will give all these nations to you and to your descendants. Then He said “I will fulfil all I commanded Abraham. Just see how many blessings God gives! At the same time, He laid a condition also to Isaac. Read the 2nd and 3rd verses of the same chapter. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. Stay in this land for a while and I will be with you and bless you.” ‘Do not go down to Egypt’ was a counsel of God.
When the place where Isaac lived was affected by famine, Isaac thought of going to Egypt. The nation of Egypt is reminding the life of slavery and the trespasses against God. During those days when the people of Israel went far away from God and offered sacrifices to other gods, God surrendered them to bondage. The sorrows which the people of Israel experienced, during that period of bondage, were numerous.
Think of the past life. Were there not many occasions in which we were caught in the bondage of sin? Did we not repeatedly fall into the bondage of sin just as the dogs, again and again, eating the disgorged food and the washed pigs falling into the mire? Is it not true that so many sufferings and losses had to be shouldered just because we did not live in accordance with what we resolved and for not fulfilling our vows? So, God says with love “My son, do not go back to the sinful habits. I have chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be my holy people. Stay steadfast in me. I will bless you.”
Dear children of God, God staying with you in all situations should be your top priority. Protect His presence in you by fulfilling whatever God tells you. What does the life of Joshua tell you? “So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land” (Joshua 6:27).
To meditate: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Mathew 18:20).
