“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2).
God not only blesses you but also promises to make your name great. Today, people are running here and there in search of name and fame. They take extreme care to progress ahead with fame in the family, office and business centre. When a situation arises wherein the name is spoiled, it becomes a prestige issue. Thiruvalluvar says in one of his poems that even loss of hair will cause a kind of deer to decide not to live further. It is told that when the deer loses its fur due to shearing, the animal considers it as a disgrace and decides to die.
As God said, the name of Abraham stands high even today. The Jews call Abraham as the ‘Father of Israel.’ In the religion of Islam, they address Abraham as ‘Ibrahim’, Father of Islam’ and ‘Nabi’. We call him as the ‘father of faith’. See, how great his name is, in the religions of Jews, Muslims and Christians. The time factor could not erase his name.
Dear children of God, He will definitely exalt your name also. If you worship God in all stages of your life loving Him and giving Him the top priority, you will become a head and not a tail. You will always be at the top, never at the bottom.
How greatly God exalted the name of Joseph! When Joseph spoke to his brothers about this he said “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me the father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt” (Genesis 45:8). Bible says, “He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honour” (I Samuel 2:8).
Dear children of God, today’s lowly life of yours will change for good. God will increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised (Deuteronomy 1:11). Not only that. He will exalt your name also.
God said to David “I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men on earth” (II Samuel 7:8, 9). Dear children of God, He will exalt your name.
To meditate: “I raised you up from among the people and appointed you ruler over my people Israel” (I Kings 14:7).
