laying the hands!

“By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff” (Hebrews 11:21).

There is some connection between faith and laying of hands. When we lay our hands with faith on the head of the sick the power of God crosses over to them from our hands. Then God heals them. Similarly, when the hands are laid on those who have been chosen for ministering, the anointment of God fills them. The power, strength and the wisdom required for the ministry come into them.
In the Old Testament, some were anointed by pouring oil. Some were called to ministry by offering a shawl. But in the New Testament, they laid their hands on those who had been chosen, separated and dedicated them. Like that when hands were laid on someone’s head, the prophetical words came out from them.
The Scripture says, “By faith, Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come” (Hebrews 11:20). When the parents lay their hands on the heads of the children and bless them with faith, those blessings descend on the children. Sometimes those blessings descend even on the children’s children and descendant after descendant. Jacob called his twelve sons and said, “Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days” (Genesis 49:1).
Similarly, Moses too at the time of his death, calling the twelve tribes of Israel made them stand before him and announced what all will happen to them. We can read this in chapters 32 and 33 of the book of Deuteronomy. When the first child takes birth, it has the blessing of birthright. There are some special blessings too which come when the parents bless their children (Deuteronomy 34:9). Not only that. When the servants of God lay their hands on your head and bless you with compassion, the power of the Holy Spirit and the merciful blessings may come on you.
In the New Testament, when a man of God named laid his hands on a youth named Saul, the Holy Spirit filled him (Acts 9:12, 17). After this, he turned as Paul the Apostle and did great things for God. He fulfilled the glorious ministry. Dear children of God, when the anointment is full on you, submit yourself on the hands of God and bless others. Help them in receiving the Holy Spirit. When you lay your hands on them and pray, the evil spirit will depart and run away. God likes to make use of your hands.

To meditate: “And these signs will follow those who believe: …… they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”” (Mark 16:17, 18).
