“Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well” (Luke 8:50).
Fear and worry will make a man an unbeliever. But the Word of God and the promises will turn him into a faith warrior. In this Scripture portion, Jairus prayed to heal his daughter who was sick. Jesus sympathised him and went to his home accepting his invitation.
On the way, a huge crowd followed them. There a woman, suffering from heavy bleeding for twelve years came from behind and touched the border of His garment and she was healed. But as it was taking time, Jairus became tensed. Since they had to travel a good distance to reach home, he worried over what might happen to his daughter. He was frustrated that he was facing hurdles in reaching home hurriedly. At that time someone came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, informing him, “Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher” (Luke 8:49).
Jairus was totally upset on hearing these words. He lost hope and his lack of faith brought darkness into him as a result of which his heart was clamped. Jesus looked at him and gave him three important suggestions. First – do not be afraid, secondly – be faithful and thirdly – she will be saved. These words of Christ shined like the stars of hope in his heart. A ray of hope came in him saying ‘God will do a miracle.’
Sometimes, when doctors confirm that a lump found in the stomach is related to cancer, we become anxious. The devil will catch hold of it, make it big and eventually brings fear to him or her. God cannot do wonders for one who doubts. James says “He who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind” (James 1:6).
The words of Christ made Jairus strong. God caught hold of the hands of the dead child and said: “Little girl, arise.” Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately” (Luke 8:54, 55).
Never allow your mind to become dejected. Whatever be the problem, approach them with faith and Christ. My Redeemer is alive. He will definitely relieve me from this problem Let the power of resurrection which descended on Christ, descend on me also. Believe that God will heal you. Faith will enable one to look into things which generally cannot be seen. It will show the non-existing things as the existing ones. It will visualise things which cannot be seen. In the end, it will bring victory and provide you health.
To meditate: “I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3).
