“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…” (Galatians 5:22).
By believing, you can receive the faith which is a gift of Spirit, in abundance. God tells about the nine fruits of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22 in addition to the nine gifts of the Spirit. What does this faith do? It lifts your eyes towards God with hope. It always guides you towards the glorious things which come from God and not towards the worldly things. It creates a hope in you so that you begin to feel that God will protect you from all sickness, disease and weakness.
A young man was made to stand in front of Napoleon the Emperor. What was the accusation against him? The commander complained, “Sir, this military warrior is afraid of everything. How can we go about the battle with such a person? The other brave soldiers also will become cowards if this man is included in the team.” Napoleon looked at the man with love and said, “Brother, do not be afraid. I am not going to subject you to any punishment. Nothing is going to happen in your life unless it is in accordance with the will of God. You may involve in any big battle but no one will be able to take your life.
He illustrated an example for this. Napoleon rode his horse at high speed and intentionally made the leg of the horse to dash against a bomb. The bomb exploded making a great noise and the horse was torn to pieces. But Napoleon was standing just on the place where the bomb exploded, uninjured. Some people may call this as mental strength but we call it as faith. One among the gifts of the Holy Spirit is faith. But, the faith which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit is placing the faith in God.’
The Holy Spirit is bringing the fruit of the Spirit into you. He creates boldness and hope in your heart. You may be a person unable to do even tiny things but the faith will enable you to do rare and great things.
Pastor Paul Yonggi Cho says, “God not only brought the thought of building the biggest church in the world in me but He also gave me the faith to do it. With that faith, I relied on God. God gave me the drawing of the proposed church and He also gave me the plan to denote how the project should proceed. With the fruit received from the Spirit, I inherited the faith and I was able to construct this big church.
Before returning to the heaven, Jesus Christ gave faith which is the fruit of the Spirit to His disciples. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in me” (John 14:1). Dear children of God, when you rely on God you will also receive the fruit of faith.
To meditate: “Be faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).
