“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised” (Hebrews 11:11).
The faith transformed Sarah into a warrior. By faith, she became blessed. Even at the age of ninety, she gave birth to Isaac who was known as ‘Son of the smile.”
We see in the Scripture many blessed men of faith. But it is rare to see women faith warriors. The words “Blessed men” find a place more than a hundred times in the Scripture. But women warriors find place less number of times, say five or six times. Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist said about Mary “Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfilment of those things which were told her from the Lord” (Luke 1:45). Yes. May it be a man or a woman, God will bring into the experience of blessing those who rely on Him with faith.
Just as Abraham was called as the father of the believers, Sarah was called as the mother of the believers. Not only to the believers but she was also elevated as the mother of nations and the mother of the kings (Genesis 17:16). Eve was the mother of all living (Genesis 3:20). Deborah was called as the mother of Israel (Judges 5:7). Mary was the mother of God (Luke 1:43). Jerusalem is independent and so she is the mother for all (Galatians 4:26).
The name of Abraham was initially ‘Sarai’ and in order to make her the mother of the believers God changed her name as ‘Sarah.’ (Genesis 17:15). The name ‘Sarai’ meant ‘high mother’ but the meaning for ‘Sarah’ was ‘the mother of nations and kings.’
How amazing it is for God to give a new name ‘the mother of nations and kings’ to a barren woman! Hereafter she is not a mother of a child but of a nation. Even though there were no grounds for her to believe the meaning of the name ‘Sarah’ and even though she had passed the age of childbearing, she laid her faith on God and inherited the promise of God.
The children of a virtuous woman rise and call her ‘a blessed woman.’ Today, the descendants of Sarah have filled the nation of Israel. But the spiritual mother Sarah’s descendants have filled both the world and the heaven. The eternity calls Sarah as ‘blessed woman’.
Dear children of God, the current time is yours. God calls you to be a spiritual mother or father. Will you rise and shine, placing your unlimited love and faith in God?
To meditate: “….a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands and let her own works praises her in the gates” (Proverbs 31:30, 31)
