“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For, by it the elders obtained a good testimony.” (Hebrews 11:1, 2)
We can know about faith and the faith warriors in the whole of the Scripture. But have you ever thought of whom to resemble in faith? Our God whom we pray is a faith warrior. By faith, He created all visible and invisible things.
“By faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible” (Hebrews 11:3).
I like Enoch, the faith warrior very much. “By faith, Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death” (Hebrews 11:5). On knowing that one section of people will be taken without facing death during the Second Coming, he became the sign for such saints. God also honoured the faith of Enoch and took him without facing death. In the entire Scripture, we read about Enoch only in eight instances (Genesis 5:21-24, Hebrews 11:5, Jude 1:14, 15). He discovered that by faith he could dwell with God. Not for a day or two, bur he dwelled with God for three hundred years.
Look! “Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. So, all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:21-24).
The total lifespan of Enoch was just three hundred and sixty-five years only. In the most part of it, for three hundred years, he dwelled with God. His family was not a hindrance to this. He had an unshakable faith that one can lead a life of purity even when with a family.
When Enoch started dwelling with God he was able to understand several divine secrets. He understood the sins are the ones which form a screen thus disabling to see the face of God. They prevent one from hearing the Word of God. He paid the sacrifices for sin and then getting away from the sins, he submitted himself to dwell with Holy God.
“…..holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14) The Coming of Christ fast approaching and so you may also be with such faith. You are standing in the final minutes and so prepare yourself to meet God through faith.
To meditate: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:21).
