“….escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle” (Hebrews 11:34).
“The child who speaks tactfully will flourish” is an old Tamil saying. “The child who has faith will be delivered by God” could be the new saying. May it be the sword of the strangers, or of the judgment, or of the enemies in war, the sword of the Spirit will deliver you.
Once, the Philistines waged war against the Israelites. They set forth before the Israelites the warrior Goliath who was equipped with a big sword and total armoury. He belonged to the giant category. He was nine feet tall. He mocked the army of Israel and gave out a call to them to choose one among them to go for a face to face fight with him.
With his faith in God, proclaiming that God would deliver him, David met Goliath with a simple weapon of sling and stones. The stone from his sling struck the Philistine on his forehead and Goliath fell on the ground. Making use of the opportunity David took Goliath’s sword and cut off his head with it.
During another instance after this war, Ahimelech the priest told David “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, there it is, wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that, take it.” And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me” (I Samuel 21:9).
Today God has given you incomparable sword in your hand. It is the Bible which is two-edged. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). Take those Word of God and His promises as the swords. “Scripture” is the sword which Jesus Christ used in the wilderness to defeat satan. When you are with this sword, no enemy of yours could stand resisting you.
Many may come against you. They may possess the sword like tongues which may cut you to pieces. They may harm you with their words. Do not be afraid. God who delivered David from the sword of Goliath will definitely deliver you also. The sword of the enemy may be too big and sharp but it can never penetrate your faith of shield. You will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. You will emerge triumphant. (Ephesians 6:16).
To meditate: “…..of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength” (Revelation 1:16).
