“….quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong” (Hebrews 11:34).
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had the power to quench the rage of fire through faith. Relying on that divine faith they violated the king’s command. They refused to worship the image of gold erected by the king.
Since their faith was absolute, they boldly reported their faith in God. They proclaimed “….our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and He will deliver us from your hand, O king” (Daniel 3:17). Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were not wavering in making this move. They did not resort to any mendacious dialogue and did not bother about the burning fiery furnace also. Dear children of God, if you stand with zeal for God, God will also stand with zeal for you.
The words of this Hebrew youth brought great anger in the king. The furnace was made seven times hotter. The strong men of the army tied them tightly and threw into the fiery furnace. What happened? As the faith within the Hebrew youth worked powerfully, they quenched the rage of the fire. The Son of God also joined the Hebrew youth and walked with them. He is the one to honour faith. Worlds were framed by Him (Hebrews 11:3). He not only authors the faith of His children but also finishes it (Hebrews 12:2).
The fiery furnace is the symbol of unbearable sufferings and sorrows. But if you have faith, they cannot cause any damage to you. What is the promise of God? “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you” (Isaiah 43:2).
Dear children of God, if God had given you a promise, hold on to it firmly. Heaven and earth will pass away but His promises will by no means pass away. It will fulfil definitely. “…..for He who promised is faithful”(Hebrews 10:23). The promises of God will bring faith to you.
Paul the Apostle clearly wrote to his Spiritual son Timothy “…..nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day” (II Timothy 1:12). Dear children of God, God will help you to overcome the fire like tests through faith.
To meditate: “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said and will He not do?” (Numbers 23:19)
