“…his hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast and which enters the presence behind the veil” (Hebrews 6:19).
The next faith in the Scripture is the faith of anchor. It combines your heart with Christ. Then, even when there is a violent storm and turbulence in your life you will remain steadfast and you will not be in haste or you will not be anguished. “Whoever believes will not act hastily” (Isaiah 28:16).
Many are yearning for a dawning light, as they travel in the boat of life, in the sea of world amidst darkness and tossed by the turbulence of waves. But they are unaware of the way to escape by chaining the four anchors, from the turbulent prone life.
Paul the Apostle was accompanied by 276 persons in a voyage. The ship was proceeding to Rome from Israel. In that ship sailors were there; centurions were there; and Paul the Apostle who had to meet the Roman Emperor was also there. At that time, suddenly a tempestuous head wind by name Euroclydon blew against the ship. Heavy rain was there; the storm blew and the sea was turbulent. The storm was blowing non-stop for fourteen days.
Then, fearing lest they would run aground on the rocks, the sailors dropped four anchors from the stern, and prayed for day to come (Acts 27:29). You can never place the anchor which is the hope on anyone other than Jesus. He is the one to rebuke the winds and the sea. “He spoke and it was done; He commanded and it stood fast” (Psalm 33:9).
You will never be shaken if you keep your entire hope on Christ. When the storm blows, move deep into the intercession, profess the faith and hold Him firmly. The Bible says “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3).
Inn Tamil Nadu, people speak about three grips. 1) Cat grip, 2) Monkey grip and 3) Iguana grip. What the ‘cat grip’ means the holding of its kitten in its mouth. In the ‘monkey grip’ it is vice versa. The monkey will not hold the smaller ones but the smaller ones will hang holding the stomach of the mother monkey. The third one, the Iguana grip is the strongest one and even when several people work together to loosen the grip it is not possible to succeed.
But the children of God have one more grip. It is the grip of the anchor which is obtained through faith. It is holding Christ, the rock firmly. David held God firmly under all circumstances. He told that his hope was in Him (Psalm 39:7). In the same way, you also may hold Him firmly.
To meditate: “….having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck” (I Timothy 1:19).
