“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:22, 23).
Firstly we saw the faith in God which is one of the fundamental preaching. Secondly, the faith which is the shield and thirdly we find ‘faith’ finding the place in the list of the fruits of the Spirit. This Spirit points out the divine characteristic which you need to possess. It points out the characteristic of Christ. It helps you in leading a fruitful life for God.
Both the fruits of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit are essential in the life of a believer. Some people will be fasting for several days for obtaining these gifts leaving alone the fruits of the Spirit. In the dress of a high priest both the bells made of Gold and the pomegranate made of Gold should find place. The bells denote the gifts of the Spirit and the pomegranates denote the fruits of the Spirit. Dear children of God let the gifts and the fruits be available in you in equal quantum. One can guide the gentiles towards God through the gifts of the Spirit. Divine characteristics will be seen in you through the fruits of the Spirit. Let the people who look at you notice the Divine characteristic in you.
‘Being faithful’ is another meaning for faith which is one among the fruits of the Spirit. It shows the faithfulness a servant has to his master. A servant who is faithful to his master will never think of committing evil to his master. He will obey whatever his master commands. He will do everything for the good of his master.
Similarly, the husband and wife should be faithful to each other. The wife who is faithful to her husband will protect her personal character from getting strained. The faithful husband too will not show any affinity for women other than his wife and stay dependable to his wife. This faith has several meanings like hope, probity, integrity, truthfulness and determination.
I was living in a rented house in Chennai. The house owner was raising a dog. The dog had a faith of unbelievable level over its master. More surprisingly he was a drunkard also. But the dog will not allow anyone to speak to its master raising their hands. It would immediately pounce on those who talk like that, exhibiting its faithfulness.
In Mathew 25th chapter, 21st verse we find God patting and encouraging with words “….good and faithful servant”. Will you also be a faithful servant of God, your master?
To meditate: “…as you also learned from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf” (Colossians 1:7).
