“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (II Corinthians 10:4).
We have been meditating on ‘Faith’ for the past few days. Natural faith is there and reposing faith in God is also there. At the same time, there is a shield of faith. In Ephesians chapter 6, Paul says while listing out the whole armour of God which every believer should possess “above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one (Ephesians 6:16). Yes. Faith is a shield. It breaks satan’s arrows and quenches all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
A king equips his warrior with befitting weapons. Similarly when we fight against power and authority, after accepting Christ, the Lord shields you with faith. When we wrestle against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places the faith protects us.
You are protected from the fiery sarts of satan by this shield of faith. This war is not for a day or two but will prolong for the whole of your lifetime. Paul the Apostle, while writing his experiences in this regard says “I have fought the good fight.” (II Timothy 4:7)
In this war, you have to put into use two kinds of weapons. One is ‘attacking weapons’ and the other is ‘protecting weapons.’ For example, the sword of Spirit which is the Scripture is capable of attacking and destroying the enemies. At the same time, preparedness is the shoes, faith is the shield and body-armour of righteousness will protect you from the onslaught of the enemies.
The foremost purpose of faith is that the believers should be protected from the hands of satan. They have to win over the world, flesh and the demon. The lusts of the eye, lusts of the flesh and the pride of the life should be overcome. Today the wicked persons, the transgressors who induce to commit evil things and the sorcerer are on the increase. Satan is also aware that only a little more time is left for him and walks about seeking whom he may devour. In this atmosphere, the faith is protecting you like a shield.
Would you like to have special protection? With faith, hold on to all the promises of God which you find in Psalm 91 and praise God. Then God will save you and you will win over all the tests that come your way. God will save you from all the evils which push you into trials.
To meditate: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you” (Isaiah 43:2).
