“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1, 2).
Without knowing, we are all running a race. Some may run towards the hell and the others towards the hade. But, as we run towards the heaven, we should run patiently and follow Jesus. Certain translations of the Scripture say ‘with perseverance’ instead of ‘patiently’.
Some people who show heroism in the beginning of the race, would fall asleep on the way as did the rabbit in a story. Some people change direction while running and they do not run with endurance in the race that is set before us by God. To prevent this run several sins, demons and the wickedness stand together. The burdens of the life also apply pressure to the heart.
But you the children of God should not step back from your perseverance and should keep on running. “Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward” (Hebrews 10:35).
Paul the Apostle says, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it” (I Corinthians 9:24).
You can learn one thing from the experience of Paul the Apostle who ran the race with perseverance and expectation. He says, “One thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13, 14). Paul the Apostle had placed Jesus as his model. “Who for the joy that was set before he endured the cross, despising the shame and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).
Yes. Look at the gifts placed in the target of the race for being given to you. God repeats often “He who overcomes.” Think of the Crowns, dwellings and the inheritance kept in the heaven for you.
Once, an athlete won in the Olympic race. In response to a query by the reporter, the winner said even before I physically ran the race my mind went in advance and reached the target. I caught hold of it and my legs simply followed it. Even when I felt very tired I looked at the target and ran relentlessly towards the destiny.
Dear children of God, Look at Christ and the thousands of saints who completed the run successfully before you. The run is going to be for a short duration and if you run this race with perseverance, you will rejoice in the heaven for crores of years.
To meditate: “My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him” (Hebrews 12:5)..
