“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,“That I will raise to David a branch of righteousness” (Jeremiah 23:5).
This is a prophecy about Christ. He was called as ‘the branch of righteousness’. God’s righteousness was revealed through Christ. Till that time, the righteousness of the man looked like torn and dirty clothes. Two great sacrifices came to the fore on the Cross of Calvary. One was the Love of Christ and the other was His righteousness.
Only if you and I wear that divine righteousness, we could stand before the Lord God. He bore our unrighteousness, iniquities, depravities and sins and died on the cross to bring divine righteousness in you. Paul the Apostle writes, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (II Corinthians 5:21).
If you want to receive God’s righteousness and stand before Him, you have to be humble and pray like the tax collector and not like the Pharisee. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (I John 1:9).
If you like to enjoy the divine righteousness as a whole, receive the Baptism so that you are saved and all righteousness is fulfilled. Following it, accept the anointment of the Holy Spirit on you. Then, you will also arise and shins in accordance with the saying ‘the righteous will shine forth as the sun’.
Christ the branch is not only a branch of love, not only a branch of righteousness but also a branch of Holiness. “In that day the Branch of the LORD shall be beautiful and glorious; and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and appealing for those of Israel who have escaped” (Isaiah 4:2). Here the word ‘beautiful’ indicates the holiness. The holiness begins in the categorization.
The glory will keep on filling you if you guard the holiness. Ezekiel the prophet warned that the glory within you will seize if unholy things and the idol worships enter the Sanctuary. Where there is glory, the covering of God will be there. “Then the Lord will create above every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and above her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night. For over all the glory there will be a covering” (Isaiah 4:5).
If you guard the holiness the heavenly fire will be in and around you. You will be protected since God covers you.
To meditate: “He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still” (Revelation 22:11).
