under the cot!

“No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lamp stand, that those who enter may see the light” (Luke 8:16).

We meditated that no one will cover a beautifully burning lamp with a bushel or vessel. And now as a third command, Jesus says that one will not burn his lamp and place it under the cot. Some people place the lamp under the cot and sleep on the cot without realising the danger. There is a very big danger of getting burnt along with the cot.

The cot indicates the spirit of deep sleep. It indicates the luxurious life. There is no burden on souls, no Spirit of prayer and no concern over eternity. “How long will you slumber, O sluggard? Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise.” (Proverbs 6:9, 6)

Do not waste the morning hours in sleep. Do not let laziness occupy it. The early morning time is the one in which we can have deep fellowship with God; a sweet prayer time; a time in which we can worship God and rejoice. “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed” (Mark 1:35).

Yes, it is the early morning time in which God poured the manna over the children of Israel along with the snow. The Israelites were expected to rise early in the morning and collect manna required for that day. Move on to the presence of God every morning and then your lamps will burn brightly.

Even though Abraham Lincoln was the President of the United States, he used to stand before the presence of God at 4 o’clock in the morning and receive counselling from God. Only after carrying out this exercise every day, he will consult with army commanders and others over what should be done for the day for the welfare of the nation.

Dear children of God, it is not enough if your lamp is burning but it should burn brightly. The Name of the Lord should be glorified through your noble deeds. For a lamp to burn, the first requirement is oil which is the Holy Spirit. If the wick, which is your deep heart is immersed in the oil which is the Holy Spirit, then you will shine.

A tree which is planted by the side of a fountain will yield wonderful fruits. A house with a rock foundation will stand strongly. Similarly, people who establish a deep relationship with God will rise and shine for Him. Dear children of God, it is not enough for you to get saved and anointed. You have to rise and do His ministry. The glory of God has risen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light and kings to the brightness of your rising.

To meditate: “So be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself to me there on the top of the mountain” (Exodus 34:2)
