“Rise, take up your bed and walk”(John 5:8).
There was a pool by name and it was by the sheep gate in Jerusalem. It had five porches. Five is the number for mercy. It was due to His mercy on us, He endured the five wounds and shed His blood. ‘House of mercy’ is the meaning of the word ‘Bethesda.’ Yes. The mercy of God revealed in Bethesda. An angel will go down into the pool and stir up the water ; whoever steps in first into the pool, he will receive the mercy of God and thereby the divine healing and health.
An ailing man was lying down very much where the mercy of God revealed. But he did not receive God’s mercy. He did not receive the healing. Is it not a strange thing in a life? Some people will stay in places where good things happen but will not receive them. A woman who was suffering from profuse bleeding for twelve long years forced herself into the crowd, took persistent effort and touched the hem of the garment of Jesus. She was healed. But the man with an infirmity for thirty-eight years did not receive the mercy. He was not healed.
Many would have been in a confused stage. One is attending Spiritual church and gives tithe also. But why does the miracle not happening? Yes. You have to stand firmly with faith and touch God with zeal: Prayerful effort should go on relentlessly.
If that man with infirmity was lying on the bed for thirty-eight long years, how would the bed be? He would have wasted all his time talking about unimportant events, gossiping, political gimmicks and as a result would have forgotten the vital thing of getting healed. “When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” (John 5:6).
He never answered the question God had put forth. God never asks us to explain any tough philosophical factors or any unimportant, unclear things. He had to simply say either ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ But he neither said ‘yes’ nor ‘no’ but accused those around. He said, “Sir, I have no man to take me to the pool when the water is stirred up; but before I reach some other person steps into the pool.
God never listened to what all he said. He just said “Rise and walk”. What all you need to do is to rise from where you are now. Rise towards the divine healing. Rise towards the health. Rise towards the prosperity and the blessing. When you rise for God, He will rise to do the miracle for you. When you get nearer to Him, He will help you.
To meditate: “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed” (Romans 13:11)
