“Like valleys that stretch out, like gardens by the riverside, like aloes planted by the Lord, like cedars beside the waters” (Numbers 24:6).
When the gentile prophet Balaam Looked at the Israelites from the top of the hill they looked like rivers running with a full capacity of water and like gardens located on the banks of the rivers. From this, you can imagine how many fruits they might have borne. The river of life is one among the many symbols of the Holy Spirit. It is not only a river of life but also an expanding and wide spreading one. The aim of the Holy Spirit is to transform you into Christ. What is meant by ‘a fruit bearing life’?
As God is Holy, you also should be Holy (I Peter 1:15). As he is pure, purify yourself (I John 3:3). As he loved you, you also should love others (John 15:12, Ephesians 5:25). Forgive one another as God forgave you (Ephesians 4:32). As He was not of the world, you should also be not of the world (John 17:16). He had a tongue of fire and He wills to change you also into flames of fire (Hebrews 1:7). You shall be perfect as the Lord in heaven is perfect (Mathew 5:48).
Look at the river with water of life which converts you into fruit bearing people. It crosses two places on its way. Firstly, it proceeds from the throne of God and of the Lamb (Revelation 22:1).
Secondly, the same river of life is a blessed one which flows from the heart of the believer. (John 7:37, 38). It is a river which expands and spreads and it never stops anywhere. “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Yes, observe intently where all, this river of life flows.
Dear children of God, when you receive anointment, God changes you into a big river of life. This anointment will not only benefit you but bring blessings to thousands of people. You may lament today that you are not useful to anyone and your days are spent purposelessly. Yes, “Who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters” (Psalm114:8).
When the river which is the Holy Spirit comes over you, He brings spectacular changes in you. Is He not one who makes a mountain into a pond of water? Definitely, He will exalt you into a useful and blessed river.
To meditate: “The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose”(Isaiah 35:1).
