“The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; the wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook” (Proverbs 18:4).
The Bible can be called as a ‘Book of Rivers.’ 1. Pishon River (Genesis 2:11). 2. Gihon River (Genesis 2:13). 3. Hiddekel River (Genesis 2:14).4. Euphrates River (Genesis 2:14). 5. River of Egypt (Nile) (Exodus 1:22). 6. Arnon River (Deuteronomy 2:36). 7. Kanah River (Joshua 16:8). 8. Kishon River (Judges 5:21). 9. Abanah River (II Kings 5:12). 10. Pharpar River (II Kings 5:12). 11. Gozan River (II Kings 17:6). 12. Jordan River (Joshua 3:15).
The Jordan River makes Israel a fruit bearing nation. The meaning for ‘Jordan’ is ‘flowing from up to down.’ It originates from several springs in the Mount Hermon, runs around two hundred miles and reaches the Dead sea or the Salt lake which is its mouth.
The Holy Spirit comes running into you from the Heavenly Throne to make your interior spiritual life fertile and fruit bearing (Revelation 22:1). We read in Proverbs 18:4 that it not only brings the anointment of the Holy Spirit and the Gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit but also brings the wisdom. Solomon is the best wise man in the world and he parables the wisdom to a fountain and to a flowing river. Don’t you want the heavenly wisdom given by the Holy Spirit?
There is wisdom for the world and there is wisdom for the Spirit also. God is giving all the wisdom to His children with love. You may be harmless as doves in the world but you need to be wise as the serpents. Otherwise, you will be cheated by the cunning foxes. If you are wise, you may not have to repent at a later stage.
Jesus Christ neither had to take back His words nor said that He uttered them unknowingly because He spoke every word with restraint and divine wisdom. The wisdom of the Holy Spirit was on Him like a river.
The prophet Isaiah has already told “The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD” (Isaiah 11:2).
You might have been well educated. You might have acquired graduations. But if you do not have the wisdom to make use of your knowledge, your education is worthless. So, dear children of God, rely on God’s wisdom and counsel. Give space for the heavenly river of wisdom fill you.
To meditate: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5).
