apples of gold!

“A word spoken in due season, how good it is!” (Proverbs 15:23).

If the words from your mouth are great and holy, it will bring countless blessings to you and others as well. Solomon the wise points out the same as “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver” (Proverbs 25:11).

“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks” If God dwells in the heart and if it is filled with the Scripture, the words you speak will be the ones inspired by the Holy Spirit. God will definitely honour those words.

Some people were travelling in a train. One among them had been making a mockery of Christianity. He said: “It is absurd for the Christians to say that Jesus was born of a virgin. Will God go and sit in a womb of a woman who was a virgin? No fool will believe this.”

A young girl travelling in the same compartment listened to what this man said. She made a small prayer requesting God to reveal her the way to reply aptly to this man who was making fun of Christian faith. Then she said “Sir, it has been written in your epics that God is both in a pillar and in a straw. When God is able to stay in a pillar and a straw, why can’t he stay in a virgin’s womb?” The man who had been mocking thus far bowed his head down. After drawing the attention of the people there, it became a good opportunity for the young woman to proclaim the Gospel there.

One among the Gifts of the Spirit is ‘the word of knowledge.’ The next is ‘the Word of Wisdom.’ These gifts are highly helpful for us to preach the Word of God. The Prophet Isaiah wrote his experience like this: “The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens me morning by morning; He awakens my ear to hear as the learned” (Isaiah 50:4).

Dear children of God, will you ask God to give you a heart of wisdom so that you can speak with wisdom. Solomon requested for the spirit of wisdom and received the divine wisdom. Is it not? David was gracing the sheep but after receiving that grace, he wisely ruled the Israelites. Is it not? Did he not sing the Psalms sweetly? In the same way, God will give wisdom to you also. He is the one to make the simple to wise. He is the one to choose the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise.

To meditate: “The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd” (Ecclesiastes 12:11).
