“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
If you want to bear fruits you have to abide in God continuously. In chapter 15 of the book of John, the word ‘abide’ is repeated 13 times. A subject told by God even for once becomes an unshakable truth. But even then, when stressing something we see God confirming by saying “Most assuredly, I say to you”. When it is so if he repeats the word ‘abide’ thirteen times in one chapter, how important it should be!
There is a funny story. Once, a beautiful leaf in a tree expressed its boredom of staying with the tree. “Why should I be attached to this tree? I can float in the breeze and spend time joyously”. Saying “Good Bye tree, I want to enjoy the world independently” it got detached from it.
At the same time, similar to the leaf, a tiny piece of mud located at a big hill wanted to roll down to the earth and look around the world. Both the leaf and the mud met each other and became friends. They decided to see the world going around together.
In a short time blew a thunderstorm. The leaf was terrified that it may be torn to pieces by the speedy wind. Its wish was to enjoy the breeze but what it faced was a fiery storm. Similarly, the piece of mud also was afraid that the heavy rain might get dissolved in the heavy rain. In the end, things happened as they feared.
Dear children of God, your strength is abiding in the family and in God. You can bear fruit only when you stay in the protection of God. If you go alone detaching from God you will have to spend your eternity in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone. Is it not? A devotee said “With Christ, I am a hero. Without Christ, I am a zero.” If you are united with Christ you will be strong and powerful. If you do not abide in God you will become a balloon which has lost its air or a fused bulb.
If you abide in God the whole heaven will be with you. Several thousands of angels will be with you. The saints all over the world will pray for you and strengthen you. You will lead a fruitful life and please God. But If you do not abide in Christ then there is no greater pity than that. Such persons will become people who have been let out under the sky like orphans and they will not have peace. So, if you want to bear fruit, abide in God.
To meditate: “The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you” (II Chronicle 15:2).
