“You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?” (Mathew 7:16).
Jesus Christ said cautioning over the false prophets “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.”
Satan has been cheating the people transforming himself into an angel of light. He is creating false miracles and signs and through this he even makes the chosen ones to change tracks. John the Apostle writes “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (I John 4:1). Yes. We cannot judge a person by the outward appearance. The fruits they possess are to be weighed.
A good tree will never yield a bad fruit and in the same way, a bad tree cannot bear a good fruit. God had placed two trees in the Eden Garden. One was a good tree and it was named as ‘the tree of life’. The other one was a bad tree and it was called as ‘the tree of the knowledge of good and evil’. Look! There are two powers in the world. One is ‘Power of God’ which is a good power. The other is the evil power and it is satan’s. When God has brought good prophets, satan brings the false prophets. On one side there are plants which yield good fruits and on the other side, there are thorny bushes. Certain fruits have poisonous contents and they endanger the body.
Some people may visit your homes holding a Bible, posing as though they are devotees. When you accept them, they will confuse you with various preaching. They are the ravenous wolves coming under the sheep’s clothing. When the Government is printing genuine currencies, some bandits go for printing counterfeit currencies.
Jesus Christ did not stop with teaching the fruit-bearing life. He has also taught us to ‘know by the fruits’ and has graciously given us the capability too in this regard. Before accepting a man’s teaching, preaching and the prophecy, ensure what kinds of fruits are there in him.
When Saul was a king and when he was filled with the divine Spirit, he stayed as one of the prophets and prophesied well. When the same Saul disobeyed God, he had been influenced by the evil spirit. He was holding the spear. Dear children of God understand the men of God through their fruits.
To meditate: “He is a liar and the father of it”(John 8:44). “We are not ignorant of his devices” (II Corinthians 2:11).
