“But I come to you in the Name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” (I Samuel 17:45)
David used the Name of God as the weapon for defending and conquering the enemies. God’s presence, power and strength are combined with His Name. David says “I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved” (Psalm 16:8).
“At the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth and of those under the earth and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10, 11).
God’s Name is greater than that of any commander. “The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge” (Psalm (46:11). “If you ask anything in my Name, I will do it” (John 14:14).
One’s personality is connected with his name. When one’s name is mentioned his characteristics and qualities appear in our imagination. You have been endowed with the Name of Christ. The Name ‘Jesus’ means that ‘He will save His people from their sins’ (Mathew 1:21).
Jesus means one who saves. One who saves from the hands of the wicked satan. He is the one to save from the hade and the lake of fire. We come to know that God possesses five names through Isaiah 9:6. 1. Wonderful. 2. Counsellor. 3. Mighty God. 4. Everlasting Father. 5. Prince of Peace. He alone is Mightier in the battle.
When Peter began the ministry he did not possess gold and silver. Neither had he education or any graduation. All he had was only the Name of God. Through that Name, he made the man lame from his mother’s womb to rise and walk (Acts 3:6, 8). “And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all” (Acts 3:16).
So, Paul the Apostle counsels saying “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:17).
Take the Name of God which is the powerful weapon. Has not God promised, “In my Name, they will cast out demons” (Mark 16:17)? Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ Thanks be to God who leads us in triumph.
To meditate: “Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask and you will receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:24).
