love of the mother!

“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you” (Isaiah 66:13)

When God created Adam and Eve, they had no worldly parents. God Himself took both the roles of father and mother for them. For you too, He is the mother and father. May be, you might have lost your father or mother but God will pity you like a father and console you like a mother.

El Shaddai is another name of God. Its meaning is that ‘one who has the breasts like the mother and one who embraces and consoles like a mother.’ Abraham was longing for his mother’s love even after reaching the age of ninety-nine. That is why God came into his vision and said “I am Almighty God; walk before me and be blameless” (Genesis 17:1)

Even today God looks at you with motherly love and affection “Can a woman forget her nursing child and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me” (Isaiah 49:15, 16).

In a family, there is nothing which could match mother’s love. During the attack of the enemies, there are some mother birds which resist fiercely unmindful of losing their lives to protect their young ones. God says “Like birds flying about, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem. Defending, He will also deliver it; passing over, He will preserve it” (Isaiah 31:5).

There was a forest behind a house and one day it caught fire suddenly. Among the burnt things one dead hen was also noticed. When it was lifted from the ground, seven or eight chicken began to run out from beneath the dead bird’s wings. When the fire was raging, the hen should have refrained from running away and instead must have made all out efforts to save its young ones sacrificing its own life in the process. God’s love is very much like that of the mother’s. We see that love at its level best on the cross of Calvary.

I met a servant of God whom God was using powerfully in His ministry. Every time before going to preach, he used to look at God’s golden face and repeatedly say “Lord, I love you. Help me to love you more”. This will go on for three to four hours. This prayer exercise will help for his face to be covered with the love of God. The compassion of Christ will descend on him powerfully. Then God will do great miracles there.

To meditate: “In all their affliction He was afflicted and the Angel of His Presence saved them; in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bore them and carried them all the days of old” (Isaiah 63:9).
