“I set my rainbow in the cloud and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between me and the earth” (Genesis 9:13).
Rainbow is a beautiful one, among the creations of God. We can keep on looking at it since it is cool and pleasant to the eyes. Seven colours combine together and bring joy to our hearts. In its background, there is God’s judgment and death of multitudes on one side. This makes the world understand how terrible the anger of God is. On the other side, what we notice is the love, concern, protection and grace of God towards Noah and his family.
Look into the Rainbow. It will remind you the covenant of God wherein He assured that the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. Accordingly, God has protected the world from getting destroyed by water from the days of Noah until now. He is faithful. “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good” (Numbers 23:19). For all the promises of God in Him are yes and in Him Amen.
(According to Tamil Bible) When God talked to Noah about the rainbow, He mentions it as “My Bow (என் வில்).”Ponder a little deeper over this. The ‘Bow’ is a’ weapon of war.’ In olden days, there used to be a separate troop as “Archer Warriors”. Now, if you think over whom the bow is aiming at, you can find that it aims at the heaven. If you go through the chapter 9 of the book of Genesis, you can find the immeasurable grace of God overcoming His judgment. The bow has been placed aiming at Jesus Christ who possesses grace and mercy. Not only that. Man’s iniquities and evil deeds made the wrath of God turn upon the lamb.
But the gracious Jesus Christ came to the world to bear the judgment on Himself. “He was wounded for our transgressions and was bruised for our iniquities”. The sin of man pierced and tore the heart of Jesus as a bow and spear in Calvary. He opened His Grace and Mercy for us through His side which had been squeezed. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
The Holiness of God will bring the righteousness and the judgment. But Jesus Christ revealed His immeasurable love, compassion and grace through the judgment of Calvary which came upon Him. Will you place your faith in that Jesus Christ? Will you come to Calvary and say with tears, as a mark of gratitude “God, you hanged on the cross for my sake as a trespass offering. Oh, you delivered me from the judgment.”
To meditate: “He was taken from prison and from judgment,……..For the transgressions of my people He was stricken” (Isaiah 53:8).
