“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5).
Every believer has to be very cautious over his thoughts, plans and intents. Thoughts alone become words and the words become the deeds. The good deeds will please God and the evil deeds will lead a man directly to the hell.
The sinful thoughts are dangerous. Resist and cast out all the evil thoughts brought by satan, with the help of the blood of Jesus.
“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man” (Mark 7:21, 22). In the list given in this verse, God has placed the ‘evil thoughts’ at the top and even ‘adulteries’ and ‘fornications’ only follow it. Many people allow their thoughts to roam about like a wild ass and in the end fall into the lusts. One may be great to rule the whole world, but he will lose his soul if he does not have a control over his thoughts.
Even thousand birds fly over a well. But when it permits few birds to sit on some space of the wall, they sit and excrete. Sprouts come out of the seeds which are in the excretion and later huge banyan tree begins to grow there. If proper care is not shown, in the end, the banyan tree will dry out the well thus making it useless. So, be cautious that your Spiritual well does not get dried out by the tree which is the sin. That is why Paul the apostle writes “…..bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (II Corinthians 10:5).
The great flood which was a harsh judgement of God destroyed the world during the times of Noah. The important reason for this to happen was that the wickedness of man was great and every thought of the heart of the man was only evil continually. Thus God judged their thoughts. The great flood came and destroyed all those who had been soaked in the evil thoughts.
Now, you are living in the period of grace and to what level you have to protect your thoughts with fear and shiver! How serious you should be in leading a life of purity and become victorious! Are we not in a period which is a period of divine grace and in that case, will not the judgement be very harsh? Dear children of God always be filled with the Holy Spirit so that your thoughts are kept holy.
God says “He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still. And behold, I am coming quickly” (Revelation 22:11, 12). “If the roots are clean, the branches will also be clean.” If the thoughts are holy, the entire life becomes holy.
To meditate:”Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (II Corinthians 7:1).
