teach me!

“So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).

This is indeed a small prayer but it is a rare one. It is a different prayer kindling our thought. It is a prayer of pouring the heart, seeking a heart of wisdom from God.

There are several small prayers in the Bible. The tax collector prayed “‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!” Jabez prayed fervently to change his sorrow. There is a powerful prayer of Elijah in which he requested the fire to fall from the sky. Samson’s eyes had been plucked and he was a subject of mockery and his prayer under such a situation is one among them Jacob’s prayer of “I will not let you go unless you bless me!” is there too. Bartimaeus, the blind prayed “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.”
Seven persons have been called as ‘The Men of God’ in the Scripture. Among them, the first and foremost is Moses. (Deuteronomy 33:1), second is Samuel (I Samuel 9:6-10), third is David (Nehemiah 12:24), fourth is Elijah (I Kings 17:18), fifth comes Elisha (II Kings 4:7), sixth is Shemaiah (II Chronicles 11:2) and seventh the last is Hanan (Jeremiah 35:4). Among them, Moses is not only a prayer warrior but also a powerful Prophet who spoke with God face to face. He was witnessed as “He is faithful in all my house” and ” Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.”

Is it not necessary for you to look into the prayer of such a person with great care? Moses prayed God to teach him the number of days that he may gain a heart of wisdom. Men of today possess several kinds of scientific knowledge. He just progresses, gaining knowledge in medicine, geography, space and computer. But the one which he does not possess is the knowledge of knowing the number of days.

No one has the knowledge to determine how many days he will live on the earth, when will he die, when will the world come to an end and when will Jesus Christ come to this world again. I met a prisoner who was facing the death sentence. “Sir, the people outside do not have the knowledge to determine their lifespan. But I have the knowledge of determining my end since the date of carrying out the death sentence has already been fixed by the authorities. But that knowledge is torturing me with the fear of death.”
Many servants of God like Dr. Justin Prabakaran and Bro Sankar died at their young age. Both of them had long term mission plans and expectations, If you have the knowledge of counting your days, you will make use of every minute. Ephesians 5:16 insists to redeem the time because the days are evil.

To meditate: “For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” (James 4:14).
