“…set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.” (Genesis 6:16)

There were three divisions (decks) in the Ark of Noah. These three divisions indicate the man’s spirit, soul and body. His prayer in the lower deck might have been for his physical needs, relatives and family. In the middle deck, it would have been for the Salvation of his soul and its blessings. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (III John 1:2).

The third deck is the one which is closer to the heaven. Noah would have used this for anointment and to listen to the thin voice of the Holy Spirit. There was an entrance in the lower deck of the Ark. But in the top deck there was a window to look up and see the heaven.

What does the entrance at the bottom deck denote? Jesus Christ who descended to the low of the earth renouncing the heaven is the entrance for the ark of Salvation. “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” (John 10:9). He is not only the entrance but also the way.” I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6).

There was a window in the top deck of Noah’s Ark. It brought the air and light into the Ark. This denotes the sweet prayer. The life of prayer alone will create a great fellowship with Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. At the time of prayer you interact with God and Holy Spirit interacts with you. If the window of the Ark had remained shut, the droppings of the birds and animals would have emitted foul smell in the ark. Then there would be no room for hygiene. If you wish your spiritual life to be healthy, let the window, which is your heart be kept opened towards the heaven. Daniel who used to pray in the upper room of his home kept its window open toward Jerusalem.

When you pray, keep your heart open toward Calvary, the hill from where you get help. Keep it open toward the heaven. Keep it open toward God’s throne of grace. Then the help from the Lord, who made heaven and earth, will come to you.

Similar to the Ark of Noah which had three decks, the Tabernacle too had three parts. There was sunlight in the outer court. Light from the golden lampstand was there in the Holy place. But the third part, which is the Most Holy Place, was filled with Shekinah glory and presence of God.

To meditate: “His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house and his righteousness endures forever.” (Psalms 112:2, 3)
