relief from burdens!

“Then the king of Egypt said to them, “Moses and Aaron, why do you take the people from their work? Get back to your labour.” (Exodus 5:4)

Just like Pharaoh of Egypt, the devil is mercilessly placing all the burdens of the people of God. The parents carry the burden educating their children as they are unable to meet the expenses related to their education with their meager income. Many burdens squeeze them. They continue to carry the worries throughout their life.

But our Lord Jesus Christ asks us to place all those burdens on him. “Come to me, all you who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light (Mathew 11:28, 29)

“He bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors” (Isaiah 53:12). “…. For, He shall bear their iniquities” (Isaiah 53:11). “Surely He has borne our grieves and carried our sorrows” (Isaiah 53:4). “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law” (Galatians 3:13). “He …. bore our sicknesses” (Mathew 8:17). You need not carry the burdens on your head unnecessarily since they have already been carried by our Lord Christ. Place everything on God and relax.

One I A S officer told me very sadly “I work in the government and my workload is too heavy. If people ask me to carry a bag full of sand, I will do that bearing all the hardship. But if the requirement is that I should carry a lorry loaded with sand, how could I do that? I am struggling to complete my assignments.”

When I was in Malaysia, I met a couple. I was unable to believe the hardship they underwent. Each of them had undertaken two or three assignments at one time to meet their demands. They had availed many loans like one for buying a house, one for buying a car and one for educating their children. They said that they were working day and night to repay their loans. The happy days of chatting with each other joyously in the family have gone by, they said.

Some others say that people who had lent money are threatening us to repay immediately. We are totally depressed and we seriously think of resorting to suicide. Dear children of God, you should never think of suicide: not even in your dreams. We have a God who could relieve you from all burdens.

Today God looks at you and says “I will take you as my people and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians (Exodus 6:7).

To meditate: “I Cast your burden on the Lord and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved”. (Psalm 55:22)
