stand upright

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that you should not be their slaves; I have broken the bands of your yoke and made you walk upright” (Leviticus 26:13).

To put a man to shame and make him walk with head bowed down is the devil’s deadly wickedness. He brings downfalls and debt problems and makes one bow down. Some officers who get arrested and taken to court for committing crimes of corruption, they cover their faces when the media cameras go for coverage. The shame brought by the sin is the reason for them to do so.

The woman who had a spirit of infirmity, suffered for eighteen years and the devil had bent her back so that she had to walk looking at the floor. She was unable to face Jesus face to face; unable to look at the heaven and eternity as well.

But God brought the children to Israel breaking the yoke of the Egypt and saving from the hands of Pharaoh and his men. He proved that He is God to make his people walk upright. The children of Israel looked victorious and like the rulers with the anointment of kingship and not like people to be governed by others. Even today God will break every the yoke you face, fill you with joy and make you walk upright.

In his young age, Joseph had a dream. In it, he saw many sheaves among which his sheaf stood upright and others sheaves bowing to his upright one. A holy life will always make you stand upright. The sinful life and life of iniquities will make you bend in shame. Fear over police; fear over judges. Getting ashamed will make one bow his head within the family.

Though Jacob had twelve children, the sheaf of Jacob alone stood straight. God will elevate you above all others in the family and adulate your name. You will be the head and not the tail and you shall be above only and not be beneath.

One day when I was returning from office, my mother in law received me with a sad face and said that someone had laid some witchcraft against their home. When I enquired on what basis she said that she replied that a servant of God who had visited our home that day had said that he was able to see three monkeys sitting and staring at our house.

I told her “Why do you want to magnify the devil by saying all such dirty deeds like magic, sorcery, witchcraft and so on. Don’t you believe that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world? Has not God said that no weapon formed against you shall prosper? Lift your head and say joyfully that the Lord is your shepherd and you will not want.

To meditate: “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Numbers 23:23)
