“Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?” (James 4:1)
‘Lust’ is a dangerous snare brought by satan. It is a big tool of satan. Lust leads a man to slavery. Movies and obscene posters lead a man to slavery. God cannot use a man who has no control over the lusts. “But the fruit of the Spirit is …… self-control (Galatians 5:22, 23).
James, the devotee has written much about lusts in his epistles. How to get over the lusts? “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren (James 1:14-16).
He continues to write: “You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and[b] adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God (James 4:3, 4).
Self – control denotes the mental strength and resoluteness. The tests and temptations cannot have a hold on the people possessing self – control. Jacob, the father, called his son Reuben and cursed him saying “Unstable as water, you shall not excel (Genesis 49:4). Because Reuben misbehaved with a woman supposed to be the sister of his mother. Such lusts attack many servants of God too and because of this, their ministry fails to yield fruits. The evil spirits could not be cast out in their ministry. They are unable to succeed as their guilty consciousness troubles them.
Satan likes to enter into you by bringing lusts. But God wants to dwell in you after washing you with his Holy blood and relieving you from the guilty conscience. Your soul keeps fighting against the flesh. “….casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (II Corinthians 10:5).
Once Pastor Sam Sundaram said “I pour the blood of Jesus every day just as we use eye drops. The balm of God’s anointment is in my eyes. So I never look at any woman with bad intentions.” Job said, “I have made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look upon a young woman?” (Job 31:1).
To meditate: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1)
