“When His lamp shone upon my head and when by His light I walked through darkness” (Job 29:3)
In this New Year, we have been meditating on how to rise and shine for God. Job, the devotee of the Old Testament shares his experience as follows: “When His lamp shone upon my head and when by His light I walked through darkness (Job 29:3). When he says that God’s lamp shined upon his head, it actually indicates the brightness of his face causes by his holiness. Light was created by this brightness and with this light Job crossed the darkness.
Some years ago, there was an advertisement for the ‘Eveready’ torch light. When a man was walking in the darkness suddenly a cobra comes to his front and just because he had a torch in his hand he was able to foresee the danger and thus escaped. The torch light was introduced with the focus on how the man would have lost his life if only he did not have a torch in his possession.
Today the Scripture and the Holy Spirit are like lights. Peter writes “And so we have the prophetic word confirmed which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts (II Peter 1:19). When a believer dedicates himself to purity and holiness the Holy Spirit will descend on him and guide him; will preach the Godly secrets.
When Job mentions about ‘light’ it really means the ‘lamp.’ Oil should be in the lamp for it to give light. Oil is the sign of the Holy Spirit. With that anointment you will rise and shine. On one side you can cross the darkness with that light and on the other side the hidden truths of the Bible will be revealed.
Satan tested Job in many ways. “In all this, Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong” (Job 1:22). He says again “Indeed I have not allowed my mouth to sin” (Job 31:30). “Surely even now my witness is in heaven and my evidence is on high (Job 16:19).
Can the members of your family witness like this about your integrity and holiness? Can the men and the angel rate your holiness as ‘truthful and sincere’? Dear children of God, protect your holiness so that you shine.
To meditate: “So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all.” (Job 1:5)
