at your word!

“Nevertheless at your word I will let down the net.” (Luke 5:5)

Though Peter belonged to a family of fishing and grown up in the fishing atmosphere, that night in spite of his all-out efforts with the net, he was unable to catch a even a single fish. No salmon, no Barracuda and not even an Anchovy! He was washing the net with all tiredness and disappointment. He was so sad that he had to fish to sell and resultantly he could not buy anything for home.

At this sad situation of Peter, Jesus came to the sea shore. People say that more than two thousand boats were parked on the shore. Then Jesus got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. (Luke 5:3).

May be Peter would have been frustrated at this. “The whole of the night I have made all out efforts to catch fish but all my efforts ended in futile. I am tired too. Now, at this situation Jesus wants me to push the boat into the sea. What is this reverence? When God has not given me a fish, why should I push my boat for his convenience? Am I to wait here without going home until he finishes his message? What benefit I have received through this reverence?”

After rendering the message, Jesus wanted to turn the defeat of Peter into success. Dear children of God, even your small contribution to God’s ministry and to Glorify His Name, He will recognise it and do wonders in your family. “For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.” (Mark 9:41).

He asked Simon to launch out into the deep and let down his net for a catch. But Simon answered “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at your word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. (Luke 5:6).

In that situation, if Peter had disregarded the words of Jesus, he would not have received so much of fishes. You need to steady yourself and resolve to do things in accordance to His words. Heaven and earth will pass away, but his words will by no means pass away. Say that you are surrendering yourself to abide by his words. God’s Word is life and spirit. His Word will definitely come true.

To meditate: “Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfilment of those things which were told her from the Lord.” (Luke 1:45)
