“Do not be unbelieving, but believing.” (John 20:27).
‘You should always be a believer and not a unbeliever’ is the expectation, counsel and command of the Lord. God has written about so many miracles and wonders in the Scripture to create faith in you. In your life too He has done so many good things to strengthen your faith.
Thomas who was a disciple to Christ stayed an unbeliever in Christ in spite of witnessing several miracles and signs done by Christ. So God had to show his wounded arm and rib to make him a believer. “Reach your finger here, and look at my hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into my side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.” (John 20:27).
Faith is a creating force where else disbelief is a destructing force. Disbelief controls God’s deeds. It prevents God from doing things with liberty. Bible says “Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” (Mathew 13:58).
Our God is one who does great things, and marvellous things without number. He descended to earth for that purpose. But when people showed disbelief over him, His hands became tied. They lacked faith and were muttering “Is he not a son of a carpenter? Is not Mary his mother?” Thus God was restricted. .
Many a time it became impossible to chase out the demons due to the disbelief of the disciples. When the disciples questioned why they were not able to cast out the demons, Jesus firmly said that it was “Because of your unbelief.” (Mathew 17:19-20). “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6).
Disbelief is an obstacle. It restricts God. So shed all your disbelief and get filled with faith and Scriptures of the Lord. Jacob writes “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;” (James 1:6, 7).
Believe God with all your heart. If you believe every prayer of yours will be answered. If you believe, He who gave His life for you will perform all things for you. “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” (John 11:40)
To meditate: “Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29).
