“Give instruction to a wise man and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:9-10).
The knowledge of our Lord will fill your heart with joy because God is the beginning and home of all knowledge and wisdom. The knowledge of knowing Him is immeasurable. Knowing Him is the first knowledge God gives you. If you develop that knowledge all other knowledge will develop automatically.
A new born baby first knows its mother. It looks up to its mother for all its needs. Only after knowing its mother, the child begins to know its father and subsequently others. When going to school the child develops its educational knowledge. Then it acquires wisdom through knowledge and learns how to live in the world. But for we, the children of God, He is the only Spiritual father and mother. The best knowledge for us is the knowledge of God.
When you involve your mind in knowing God, you will become more and more eager to know Him and get nearer to Him. Then you will understand His nature and characteristics. You will also understand what is His liking is and what His will is.
The eagerness in Paul the Apostle was always over knowing about God. “Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ. …….. that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” (Phi 3:8, 10, 11)
The yearning within Paul the Apostle made him to go to Arab country alone and fast and pray there for three years. This helped him in gain knowledge over Christ and also in knowing the mystery of God. Finally he writes “For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” (II Timothy 1:12).
You may like to know how a sweet’s taste will be but even reading thousands of books cannot provide you a satisfactory answer. But in a moment you will know what the taste of sweet is if you consume a spoon of sugar or if you can drink a spoon of honey. Dear children of God taste His characteristics similarly. “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” (Psalm 34:8).
To meditate: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. (Habakkuk 2:14)
