wisdom literature!

“For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD and he ponders all his paths. (Proverbs 5:21)

The book of Proverbs is known as ‘Wisdom Literature’. Right from the olden days, people have been researching and searching for wisdom. The monks, who were searching for peace, went through the alphabets of the olden days and began to search for the religious and philosophical wisdom as though they were looking for gold and treasures. Such people were there in Israel of those days too.

The Old Testament has been divided into four parts and they are 1 History, 2 Law, 3 First five books of Wisdom and 4 Words of Prophecy. Jeremiah 18:18 says “For the law shall not perish from the priest, or counsel from the wise, or the word from the prophet.” The book of Job, Psalm, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon remain as Wisdom Literature in the Bible.

The prophets and the priests of Israel were interested in the spiritual, ritual and ceremonial practises. But the worldly philosophers taught worldly knowledge, life styles and the secrets of victorious life.

What was their aim? The world obtains the status through knowledge. People who seek wisdom will understand that the world has been created exclusively for them and initiate to inherit them. Most part of the book of Proverbs has been written by Solomon. Outstanding advices for the people of the world are there in this book. Since its teachings hold both worldly and spiritual aspects, it commands special importance. It is such a sad thing and it is also a big loss that this book of Wisdom Literature has not been included in the curriculum.

When the educational institutions are neglecting the moral syllabus, the Christian Institutions also do not give importance to Proverbs. They value it lowly saying that it came from just Solomon and neglect it. They forget that it is an important portion of the Bible and it is a gift of God.

You should know that whichever Church is not insisting its congregation to read the book of Proverbs, they are committing a great evil to the people.

Dear children of God, create a boundless love and interest in the Wisdom literature. Read every verse in the book of Proverbs and meditate them. Then you will receive a new revelation over what is wisdom. You will be filled with Godly wisdom in your life.

To meditate: “Happy is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gains understanding” (Proverbs 3:13).
