The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: (Proverbs 1:1).
Contents of wisdom are there in the Scriptures. Words of justice are there. Proverbs are there. Words of preaching are there. Words of caution are there. There are thirty one chapters in the book of Proverbs in the Bible. There are thirty one days in the months of January, March, May, July, August, October and December. If one chapter is read every day, the whole book could be completed in a month. There are thirty or less days in some months and it will be good if more chapters are read during the closing days those months.
In many churches the Pastors insist the congregation to read at least one chapter every day from the book of Proverbs. It is because that we can acquire the following things. To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, Justice, judgment, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel to understand a proverb and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddles. (Proverbs 1:2-6).
The important word in the book of Proverbs is ‘Wisdom’. Wisdom is the gift of God for one to have prosperity in his life. Wisdom is essential for a man to be righteous in this world filled with sin, wickedness and transgressions. The proverbs also define the good relationship between a man and God as well as the good relationship among one another humans. There are some advices for the parents and the children too.
Solomon is not the author of all the chapters of Proverbs. Proverbs 30:1 says “The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, his utterance. This man declared to Ithiel–to Ithiel and Ucal.” Similarly in chapter 31 it has been noted as follows. “The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him” (Proverbs 31:1).
“Knowing this first that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” (2 Peter 1:20-21). So, dear children of God, keep in mind that these words in the book of Proverbs are meant for you by God and attain the entire benefits of the book of Proverbs.
To meditate: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (II Timothy 3:16-17).
