“Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me and have sent me away from you?” (Genesis 26:27).

The mind of Isaac always possessed Godly peace. Even when so many people chased him, he stood upright with the confidence that God was with him. You may also face numerous problems in your life. But God says that He is with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. He will plead for you. He will fight for you. He will perfect that which concerns you.

“When a man’s ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him” (Judges 16:7). Yes, the way of Isaac pleased God. Determine to please God always and not men.

Isaac did not go in search of Abimelech and the Philistines to compromise. But God miraculously brought them before Isaac and plead guilty. Isaac forgave them whole heartedly and did not retain any hatred in his heart. When the enemies approached him for reconciliation he readily came forward to make a peace pact with them with joy.

Generally it is rare for people to accept their fault and plead guilty. It is hard indeed to forget the evil acts of betrayal committed against us. Some people keep such bitterness in remembrance even for twenty, thirty years. When the right time comes they will retort also. When you are alone, satan will bring such wrong doings before your eyes and ensure that you do not forget them. Dear children of God never allow him to create an impact in you and always whole heartedly forgive others.

What did Isaac do against his enemies? “So he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. 31 Then they arose early in the morning and swore an oath with one another; and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace” (Genesis 26:30, 31). What was Jesus Christ’s preaching on the hill? “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” (Mathew 5:44).

We did not get an opportunity to hear Christ’s hill prayer. But all these spiritual commands were in perfect form with Isaac. Isaac was one to accept them in full and practise them in life. Isaac and his enemies might have embraced each other and shook hands. Isaac experienced the joy of peace. Pray to God to make you a spiritual person.

To meditate: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21).
