Help in trouble

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1)

Since God is our help ” we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling (Psalm 46:1-3). We do not know when the turbulence would arrive when diseases and sickness attack, when poverty squeezes and when debts ride on our shoulders. But God is our refuge, strength and a very present help in trouble.

What is the promise of the ‘help’ to you? “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me (Psalm 50:15). “Call to me, I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jeremiah 33:3).

When the Second World War was in progress the German air force was vigorously attacking London with bombs. At that time one elderly lady alone was not afraid of the situation and she stayed at her home while all others hide themselves in pits prepared for the purpose. People around were astonished to see this and asked her how was she able to be fearless that way. The elderly lady replied that the Lord has promised “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you” (Psalm 91:7). Yes indeed. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10). Indeed the Lord is a very present help in trouble.

King David guided the children of Israel for the whole of his lifetime with the support of the Lord. He said “Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield (Psalm 33:20). Yes. Dear children of God, the Lord will be a help to you always. If He is going to be your help, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling. So join David and worship saying “You are my help and my deliverer” (Psalm 40:17, 70:5).

Even when his enemies pushed him from all directions David did not relent. He prayed saying “Awake to help me, and behold” (Psalm 59:4). There is a beautiful song in Tamil which goes this way. “Oh Lord, there are numerous forces opposing me and I need your help Lord in this world”. Whenever you sing this song hold His hand tightly. He will accompany you for the whole of your life time as a help to you. He also will do all miracles.

To meditate: – “Because you have been my help, therefore in the shadow of your wings I will rejoice” (Psalm 63:7)
