Abraham and lot!

“So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him” (Genesis 12:4).

God enabled Abraham to vision Him and also gave him a promise. He said “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you”. Though Lot did not get such a vision he attached himself with Abraham to receive it. He was very sure that God will keep up the promise given to Abraham. Lot’s thinking was that he also might get a lift similar to that of Abraham.

For the sake of inheriting Canaan Abraham tolerated all the trials and tribulations. But in the eyes of Lot, Sodom and Gomorrah looked greater to Canaan. So Lot devalued the fellowship of Abraham and preferred to move to the fertile land of Sodom. Lot’s fellowship continued with the wicked and the wild people without God.
What was the result of these things? When the four kings who invaded Sodom and Gomorrah won the battle Lot and his family were imprisoned. Abraham had love over Lot and hence he fought with those four kings and released the people of Sodom and Lot from the prison.

Lot should have realised the importance of the fellowship with Abraham at least after this incident. But he did not. Even the people of Sodom and Gomorra did not respect Lot. “And they said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door” Genesis 19:9).

The Lord overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and decided to destroy with fire due to the sinful life of the people. He said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.” Lot’s wife turned back and became a pillar of salt. His daughters brought their descendants through their father and were hated by God. Those descendants were hated by the Godly people.

Dear children of god, you be always united with the Lord and His servants. Always combine in the vision of righteous persons who follow the Lord truly. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

Certain people will never be attached to a congregation for a longer duration. They will never come forward to get planted in a garden. At the end they will be cursed as the case of the fig tree. What will happen to a plant if it is planted in a garden today and tomorrow it gets uprooted and planted in another garden?

To meditate: – “He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper” (Psalm 1:3).
