Jacob’s Family!

“The blessings of your father have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills. They shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.” (Genesis 49:26).

Though Abraham had eight children, Isaac was the son to receive all the blessings. Isaac had two children but Jacob was the recipient of all the blessings and birth right too. Now, let us move into the forefather Jacob’s home. Jacob had four wives twelve sons and one daughter named Dinah. Of these twelve children Reuben was the eldest and the birth right should have gone to him. Curse was the one for Reuben to receive. All the blessings reached Joseph. He received double blessing.
The meaning of the word ‘Joseph’ is ‘expand’. Right from the childhood Joseph experienced spiritual growth and God’s hand was on him. He was loved by his father and God as well. It is because of this that God blessed him with dreams and visions and also the grace to define their aftereffects beforehand. Jacob had given him a tunic of many colours.

Of all people in the family Joseph was the one to suffer a lot. He lost his mother at a tender age and was unable to look after his younger brother. Other brothers were hostile towards him. They pushed him into a pit and in the end sold him in Egypt. Wife of Potiphar falsely accused him and sent him to prison. When God lifted him to the position of Pharaoh, he wanted to help his parents and brothers. He gave them grains and also helped them to live with him. The Godly mind of forgiving was in him.

Jacob in his old age, gave Joseph the birth right and blessings as well. It looked like as though he was saying that Joseph was with him always and all that he had belonged to Joseph. The blessings of your father have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills (Genesis 49:26).
Many scholars analysed about the whereabouts of ancestry of Joseph they found that at the time of they came and settled in Britain. As we talk about the twin blessings of Joseph, two continents rose from England. One being America and other being Australia. Dear children of God, you too have be the children of the promises and heirs to him.

To meditate: – “Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough by a well; his branches run over the wall” (Genesis 49:22).
